The Pups' Life: from birth to your home
As the pups grow we try to take as many pictures as possible to give everyone a glimpse into their pup's everyday life. Most photos of the pups will be candid photos while they're playing out in their field. We don't use "staged" photos other than their newborn ones up to 4 weeks old, all others are candid pics!
Born in our home, they're used to a home setting right from the start. They'll stay here, wit a baby monitor for safety and just to keep an eye on them, until they grow to the age of needing more space
We give natural health care as much as possible and a natural life style for pups. We focus on building and keeping a strong immune system and have our natural care at the ready if anything ever would come up. We also send information home in each puppy folder and offer our natural care experience and tips to our Puppy Family members as well, for the life of their pup.
Of course we also keep our team of conventional vets on speed dial if ever they are needed. We love our vets because we trust them. Make sure you find a vet that you trust as well and hopefully that vet will support your decision to go the natural route as much as possible.
This "Big Pup" area is where they're moved out to when they're ready for more space. This space includes a room built at the end of the barn for the moms and their litter to have a secure space to call their own. A doggy door allows freedom to go in and out at will, thus keeping their natural instinct to keep their sleeping /eating / living area clean. A night pen keeps them safe. A day play yard, gets them used to more experiences while keeping them safe, and then that play yard opens up to their field for even more space for exploring just being happy healthy puppies.
Visiting is encouraged if at all possible. Some families have visited every weekend until their pup was ready to come home with them
Socializing is important. The key to a well socialized pup is introducing it to all kinds of smells, sounds, sights, other animals, just everything in your world. If you're a highly active family of sports and public events, you should introduce your pup to the experiences of your life early on. If you're a less socially active family then introducing your pup to all the events in your home area. Socializing is NOT what many think it is. It's not about forcing the pup to accept strangers touch or attention, it's not about forcing anything. It's all about encouraging a calm behavior around the things in your life.
Puppy Training Tips
Training info and tips will be replaced soon. Thank you for being patient while this page is re constructed
We offer 30 days of Intro to Training for those who want a leg up on their pup right from the start. The training fee for this is 250.
Tugging on people & biting not allowed! Appropriate things ONLY!
Give them an outlet for this need
Remember to
1) Correct
2) Redirect
3) Praise
Start from the beginning. Give your pup a few days to acclimate to all the new things and to get to know you and other members of the family. Get the kids involved if they're ready. The only thing we start off with on our own new pups is no biting, especially on the kids. We don't have them yell or scream as if they're in pain, that can only escalate the pup's excitement and make things worse. What we do is interfere, sharply verbally correct, discipline only if necessary, redirect with an item that is allowed and encouraged to be chewed, and when the item is in the mouth of the pup, we praise.
Kids are NOT to be seen as the pup's siblings to be wrestled on as the pup may have wrestled with his litter siblings..... Why? Well if you've ever watched a litter of pups wrestle, it can involve a lot of biting, and the instigator doesn't always stop when the other one is yelping! It can get a bit violent! Kids should not be mauled!!
* NOTE: the kid you see in many of these pictures is my grandson and is now 11. He was always fully supervised when with the pups, and in the picture to the left, the pup had already been trained for what he is asking it to do. The older kids you see in older pictures are now grown and parents themselves, some are married and have kids of their own now. The current kids you may see with our newer litters are my grand kids. They're here a few days every week so the pups are very accustomed to kids!
We also offer a 30 day beginning training, an intro to training that consists of the basics of crate training, potty training, No Bite, no jumping on people, sit, wait, down or off, and leash work.
The black/tan above and to the side, and the sable below both had their families choose to get their basics done here before they went home. If the training is continued once they go home, it makes things a lot easier and more enjoyable for everyone
No matter what your long term goal is, just remember to start the training early! They are fully capable of learning simple things right from the start. If you start them off right you'll both be happier in the long run
